The sad news of Prince Philip’s passing had an entire tribe far from the United Kingdom grieving his death. Melanesians, inhabitants of Tanna, considered Prince Philip a deity and he was a venerated being. According to an old prophecy, a soul from Tanna would go far away on the lookout for a powerful woman to marry. They believed it was him, therefore they worshipped him.
The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on April 9th at the age 99. Not long before his death, he underwent a surgery and remained hospitalized under observation, but he was then released, and he went back to the Buckingham Palace where he died a few days later. When the news broke, the tribe that lives in Tanna held a ritual ceremony for him and announced that they are planning to start a spiritual party in his honor.
The place where this tribe resides is Tanna; an island that is located in Vanuatu, a country made up of 83 islands; Tanna is one of the biggest ones with a population of 29.000 people. They are very rooted in their customs and traditions which are passed on from one generation to the next.
