Vanuatu Women’s Cricket Team Achieves Historic Win Against Zimbabwe

In an exhilarating match at the T20 World Cup qualifying tournament in Abu Dhabi, the Vanuatu women’s cricket team celebrated a notable victory. Positioned 30th in global rankings, the team faced Zimbabwe, who hold the 12th spot, and secured a win by six wickets, creating a buzz in global cricketing circles.

Despite Zimbabwe setting an initial target, they were bowled out for just 61 runs within 14 overs. Vanuatu’s star performer, Nasimana Navaika, remarkably took 4 wickets for 13 runs and scored 21 runs, earning her the Player of the Match title. The Ni-Vanuatu squad achieved the winning score with remarkable ease, having four wickets in hand and three overs to spare.

Remarkably, just weeks before this match, several team members were participating in Australia’s seasonal workers’ program, highlighting their determination and adaptability. The team’s captain, Selina Solman, voiced her pride in the squad’s steadfast dedication and skill.

Previously, in the regional qualifiers, Vanuatu toppled Papua New Guinea, who are ranked 11th worldwide, demonstrating significant improvement and resilience. The team’s coach, Rasu, praised their mental and physical evolution and hailed them as excellent representatives of their nation.

Looking forward, the team is set to battle against the Netherlands on April 27 at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi. With high spirits, Coach Rasu is optimistic about continuing their strong performance to secure a leading position in the group.
