Following seven rounds of inconclusive voting, Vanuatu’s government has finally elected its 12th President – Mr Nikenike Vurobaravu – on Saturday 23rd July 2022.
Intensive negotiations were required in order to secure the required majority in the 58-member Electoral College.
Vurobaravu, a member of Vanuatu’s oldest political party – the Vanua’aku Pati (VP) is a political veteran who has also served with the Asian Development Bank and most recently held the position of High Commissioner for Vanuatu to Fiji.
His agenda includes supporting Vanuatu’s climate change lobbying, and promoting unity across the 83 islands of the country as it emerges from the recent Covid 19 pandemic.
